The Hippodrome of Constantinople in Istanbul, Turkey

The Hippodrome of Constantinople was the heart of Constantinople’s political, social and sporting life during the Ottoman history. Just imagine, horse racing and chariot racing were popular pastimes in the ancient world. The Hippodrome of Constantinople was also where lavish events and the days-long circumcision ceremonies of the sons of Sultan Ahmed III, took place.

Today, the Hippodrome it is a lovely paved square named Sultanahmet Meydanı (Sultan Ahmet Square) in the city of Istanbul, surrounded by small cafes, historical sites and the beautiful Sultant Ahmed Mosque (the Blue Mosque), located just across the street from the Hippodrome square.
