New plastic molding technology promises better data security

In today’s digital world, securing personal information against identity theft and other types of fraud has become a major global concern. But, now a group of engineers in Britain have come up with an ingenious idea that could revolutionize the field.

Researchers at the Warwick Manufacturing Group have developed a new way of embedding data into plastic. With this new method, a credit card holder’s data will no longer be stored on a chip; instead, the data is put into the plastic itself. The technology could also be used to embed mobile phone cases with personal information, raising the level of costumer data security. It has the potential to hold data as detailed as a fingerprint, which could be extracted using a scanner and cross-referenced with the same information held in a soft...
